Chicks With Sticks Dublin Launch January 2024

Eimear McManus and Ruth Crehan of ForeFront Sports were thrilled to be in attendance at the Chicks with Sticks event in Sigmoid HQ on Friday 12th January. Chicks with Sticks, a community for beginner golfers in Dubai, is launching a new series of lessons with David Kearney, Director of Performance at Sigmoid HQ. This collaboration between CWS and Sigmoid reflects a commitment to inclusivity in women’s golf. By growing a community of like-minded women golfers, we anticipate 2024 to be a pivotal year for golf in Ireland.

The Chicks with Sticks event welcomed over 100 like-minded women to meet and test out the practice areas at Sigmoid HQ. There was a constant buzz throughout the evening, fuelled by complimentary CWS-themed treats and prosecco!

Jenny, founder of Chicks with Sticks, spoke at the event: “I quickly identified a gap in the market for a social golf community, ultimately aimed at a young working professionals. My vision is to create affordable group golf lessons in a fun, relaxed, and social setting.”

David Kearney was on hand to assist attendees at any of the three Sigmoid Trackmans. ‘The big thing is about progression, it’s not about perfection. It’s just about saying I’m gonna get a little better, I’m gonna get myself to a point where I can play the game. Once you start playing this game, the people you meet, the places you go, and the experiences you have are second to none.”

We then heard from a panel of four speakers, hosted by Jenny. The panel featured David Kearney (Director of Performance, Sigmoid HQ), Aine Donegan (Elite Amateur Golfer), and Eimear McManus (Managing Director, ForeFront Communications).

Eimear highlighted the challenges beginners face when stepping up onto that first tee box and the nerves hit you, and how connecting with a network of women facing the same problems can help to put that fear to the back of your mind. “I think the biggest thing is it just gives you confidence, and also if things don’t go right, it’s absolutely fine. To be honest, what I’ve learned about playing golf is no one actually cares about your game they just care about their own game. That is the biggest thing I’ve learned from over the years.”

Aine, an amateur golfer who has experienced all the highs and lows of golf there is, said “Even if you’re struggling a bit just stick with it, you’ll get where you’re eventually meant to be. Life’s got a funny way of putting you in the right place.”

At ForeFront Sports, we hope to see a growth in the number of women getting into golf in 2024, fuelled by a surge in support and services tailored for beginners. The partnership between Sigmoid HQ and Chicks with Sticks is embracing the inclusivity of women in golf and will offer a community that promises to make 2024 a landmark year for women’s golf in Ireland.
