Engaging the Business of Golf in Ireland

The ForeFront team attended Sigmoid HQ for the Sport for Business, The Business of Golf Network Event. It was a great evening where our Managing Director of ForeFront Communications opened up the panel discussion to discuss the rise within the female game alongside Maria Dunne of Golf Ireland. Cian Branagan, ForeFront Group CEO, spoke alongside Laura Condron of BMW and Rob Crabbe of KPMG on Sponsorship within the professional game.

There was fun, and there was business done yesterday at the Business of Golf event we hosted at Sigmoid HQ and then at the US Ambassador’s residence in the Phoenix Park.

We hosted fascinating and insightful conversations on the Women’s game with Eimear McManus of ForeFront Sports and Irish Golfer and with Maria Dunne of Golf Ireland.

These conversations took us from the creation of Golf Ireland and a gender equality strategy to the effective reality of the Get Into Golf programme, which has brought 5,000 new players to the sport and maintained a long-term interest in just under 60 per cent of those who took the opportunity.

Next up was  Nearest the Pin competition on the three Trackman-enabled bays at the brilliant Sigmoid facility.  We played the 17th at Pinehurst, and the prize of two tickets to the OFX Legends Event in Seapoint next week and to the KPMG Women’s Irish Open went to left-handed, Camogie trained Sinéad McHugh, landing only seven feet from the pin, closer than Rory managed later in the evening at the US Open.

Sponsorship in the Professional Game was the next subject for discussion with Laura Condron of BMW, Rob Crabbe of KPMG and Cian Branagan of ForeFront Sports,

We spoke of the value of the experience and the extension of smart activations like KPMG’s Birdies for Books and the ability for local teams to tap into a rich global engagement with golf that both have built up.

We remembered BMW’s special car parking lane at Carton House for the Men’s Irish Open from a few years back, and maybe, just maybe, that simple but effective idea might be brought back for the Women’s event this year at the end of August.

The Longest Drive competition was competitive, but in the end, it went to Josh Adams of Fairways Golf.  He won a voucher for a session at Carr Golf’s new Swing Yard facility opening next month.

Alex Saul from Carr Golf was next up for the chats alongside Dean Klatt, the founder of Seed Golf, looking to take on the biggest names in golf with his subscription model for balls and golf equipment.

A fascinating conversation with two leaders about the business of golf, how it is developing and advancing.

Our final piece in Sandyford was with John Rooney of Flogas and Brian Quinn about the power of the amateur game as a platform for Sponsorship.  John remembered his first tournament as CEO of the company handing over a local tournament trophy in Northern Ireland to a young Tom McKibbin, who yesterday made his first US Open appearance Stateside.

220,000 members and another 500,000 that played the game last year present a strong case for golf as a sport of choice for brands, and that shone through.

Then it was on to the Phoenix Park as guests of the US Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin and a conversation with US Golf writer Tom Coyne as well as more friends to meet, more connections to forge and more excitement for what we might all do together in the coming months and years.

Among those who joined us were representatives from Trackman, Halpenny Golf, the IDA, Sigmoid Golf, BMW, Golf Ireland, Salesforce, Dialog, Goal, Wasserman, AwGoGolf, My Golf Group, Seed Golf, Synergy Golf, Wicklow Golf Club, ForeFront Sports, Carr Golf, KPMG, Session Golf, Golf Strong, Tom Kennedy Golf, The Marketing Institute of Ireland, Irish Fairways, Timeless Golf and others.

We will be hosting another event in September, looking ahead to the Amgen Irish Open and the Solheim Cup, and plenty more.

Our thanks to Rob Browne and Dave Kearney at Sigmoid HQ, a great space to get to know all our speakers and those who came for what was a special day.
